You will experience traditional small mountain Greek villages, prepared walking paths in amongst olive groves and cypress trees with a mixture of Greek Villages and Byzantine castle.
You may notice the mountain Greek Villages have influence from Greece mainland.
The explanation:during the Othomans occupation in Greece, some Greeks moved to Corfu Island which was under Venetian Supervision.
Lakones village was one of these cases, they moved from Lakonia Peloponese during Othomans occupation. It is a lovely typical Corfiot village with one thin road running through the middle of it. Walking through the traditional road village you can see houses of the 18th and 19th centuries, that they surely have some kind of charm.
Among the houses you will find churches and traditional coffee shops. You may even see women wearing the traditional Greek dress here.
The village offers one of the best views on the island with Palekatritsa well below, because from Lakones, all the scenery in its majesty can be viewed. There you can admire the view over the bay of Paleokastritsa.
Almost to the top, this fantastic mountain walk with its interesting mountain climbs will reward you with some of the best views on the island.
Angelokastro is located at the top of the highest peak of the island's shoreline in the northwest coast near Paleokastritsa and built on particularly precipitous and rocky terrain. It stands 1,000 ft (305 m) on a steep cliff above the sea and surveys the City of Corfu and the mountains of mainland Greece to the southeast and a wide area of Corfu toward the northeast and northwest.
Angelokastro is one of the most important fortified complexes of Corfu. It was an acropolis which surveyed the region all the way to the southern Adriatic and presented a formidable strategic vantage point to the occupant of the castle.
Angelokastro formed a defensive triangle with the castles of Gardiki and Kassiopi, which covered Corfu's defences to the south, northwest and northeast.
This excellent walk has many thrills that even if it is slightly strenuous it's worth to try it.
Food: You will not need to bring a large amount of food, however, certainly bring some. This is the sort of walk where you might bring some snacks and fruit.
There is a shop on route and we will finish at a beach side tavern. The best rule of thumb is always to come away from a walk with some food spare
